I have a goal in mind this year to read a minimum of 50 books. I was able to read 25 books in 2021, which at the time, seemed a large stretch to me. Setting a larger goal for this year, I have successfully read 15 books within the last three months of the year. One book from the past 15 stood out among the rest.
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch has been popping up on my Bookstagram or TikTok Book Review recommendations for the past six months. As a thriller and dystopian lover, I highlighted the read based upon the overall highly recommended reviews from other book content creators online.
I was not disappointed.
If you’d like to read a synopsis, here’s a great one featured on Book of the Month! I enjoyed this review by author Maris Kreizman, and the book synopsis is what made me want to pick up the book as soon as possible. What with Marvel’s Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness opening in theaters in May, brushing up on multi-verse physics concepts seemed to be in my best interest.
From the first moment I opened the book, the author’s stunning prose reached out and pulled me into Dark Matter’s world. Crouch takes a deliberate approach when setting up the structure of the novel, using spacing and line indentation to generate a linear style to the multi-dimensional world he creates. When comparing this book to the one I had just finished before it, the chapter structure seemed a bit long, but due to the set-up of the writing with thematic elements, it allowed for me to get to the climactic end relatively quickly.
When it comes to the multi-verse, understanding the concepts of the world-building needed is a large task. Crouch managed to make these concepts easy to read but also incredibly understandable and innately human. At the core of the human experience, love is the connector. Crouch reminds the reader that love transcends time, space and our dimension inside our lives.
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch Rating: 10/10

I am excited to say that this book has been adopted to become a series on Apple TV. I am counting down the days to be able to review this TV series as well, and hope they put as much care into the show as the author put into the world-building of his multi-verse.
