I'll be honest, I have very little background into the world of masked vigilantes. I am, however, an avid HBO consumer and fan of their content. I make it a point to re-watch The Newsroom at least once a year, fell in love with Issa Rae in Insecure, and navigated my way through the complex sci-fi drama that is Westworld.

Coming into the show, I was captivated by the action and writing. I didn't know much, if any, about Dr. Manhattan, Adrian Veidt, or Rorschach. A friend of mine told me it wasn't necessary to really know the background, but I will admit I did some research between episodes 3 and 4. (Spoiler alert, they do let you in on what happened in the past. I just needed to read into the context for my own impatient want).

What I witnessed in the course of my 8 hour binge over a two day period was the creation of a world oddly similar to the one we are in now. Masks for protection. Nuclear holocaust. A race war featuring white supremacists & the corruption of politics. The dream of a Utopia. The themes explored within the show can easily translate to anyone going through the current state of affairs in our time period of 2020.

As a result, I don't just recommend this because Regina King's performance is legendary. Or that the score sticks with you, even after the origin stories have played out on your screen. I recommend this because the alternate dimension explored within the confines of 8 episodes is a parallel universe so in line with our own, I expect a "blue god" to pop up on our news channels next month.

So to that I say, binge it.
